General Concepts: Races

These are the races of Shattered Realms that are currently playable. Each race has strengths and weaknesses and have their own 'hometown' that each can call their own. Each race also has a kind of racial deity whom most members of that race worship, although there are always exceptions. Also this is intended as a basic tenet for roleplaying in our Realm, but as with all true roleplaying, the more creative you are the more enjoyable experience you will have ;-) ......

Races:

Human Gnome Goblin
Elf Half-Elf Lizard-man
Drow Half-Drow Orc
Dwarf Hobbit Half-Orc
Duergar

Human

Humans are the most unpredictable of races. Averaging 5 to 6 feet and around 180 pounds, humans can exhibit almost any color of hair, eye and skin. Humans can do almost anything, and often do. There is no racial tendancy nor specialization, rather a large diversity. This is, perhaps, what makes the human race so good at surviving.

Elf

Elves are an ancient race of demi-humans. Complexion is usually light, hair colours include black, brown, red, blonde, and in some cases white. Eyes are typically blue, but violet and brown have also been seen. In some races of wilder elves, green eyes have been found. While slighter in build that humans, this makes the elves less hardy than the humans, but also more agile.

Drow

Most nimble and intelligent of the elvish folk, drow are also the most cruel and violent. All drow have skin tones ranging from ebon black to deep purple, with hair uniformly white. Drow eyes come it 2 shades, yellow and violet. Drow tend to be a paranoid race, destroying anything and everything according to the will of their goddess, Lilith, or by the word of their matron mothers.

Dwarf

Dwarves are the strongest demi-humans. A dwarves male will average around 4 to 5 feet tall at his prime, a dwarven female will average 3-4. In appearence (and suprisingly weight) dwarves look very much like mean old men. Dwarven women look much like dwarven men, only with slightly shorter beards.

Duergar

In many ways, Duergars are just as strong as their surface counterparts. But unlike the dwarves they are malicious and greedy, but are still excellent stone workers. Due to their upbringing in the UnderDark in proximity to the drow they are also slightly more intelligent. Duergar resemble pale grey dwarves in appearance, though their hair is usually black.

Gnome

Gnomes are thought to be an evolutionary branch of the dwarven family. Resembling dwarves in physical appearance, gnomes have have developed in intellegence what their dwarven breatheren have developed in strength and hardiness. All this is steadfastly denied by the dwarves. Gnomes have a tendancy to fiddle with anything with moving parts, displaying a childlike need for knowledge and showing childlike caution in that pursuit.

Half-Elf

Half-elves are most commonly the cross between the elf and human races. As such, they do not differ too much from either side. Inheriting the frailty of the elves, half-elves often surpass their elves breatheren in beauty.

Half-Drow

(Note: You must choose half-elf to begin. When choosing parents, choosing drow will begin your journey as a half drow)

Hobbit

Hobbits are the weakest of the demi-human races. Often mistaken by humans as human children, hobbits tend to reach their full height around 3 feet. Long lived and care free, the hobbits tend to be friendly and easy going. While lacking strength, hobbits show an unusual nimbleness for their size. Their custom of not wearing shoes helps them to move silently as well.

Goblin

Goblins are one of natures greatest triumphs and also worst failures. With all the physical requirements for a superior breed, goblins are also the most stupid and ugly of the demi-humans. With green, red, or brown skin, and a variety of hair types, goblins can be, at times, little more than very clever animals. The attack in swarms, and often destroy what they cannot understand. They have even managed to forget the name of their god.
